CHAPTER FIFTEEN

New Orleans, Louisiana

It was late afternoon by the time Able Team arrived at the private airport in New Orleans.

The Able Team warriors prepared their weapons for transfer while Charlie Mott taxied to a small hangar. During their forty-minute flight, Schwarz had attended to the task of cleaning and checking weapons, and then reloading. He’d also loaded additional magazines. Lyons elected to trade his automatic shotgun for an MP-5 SD-6. Coupled with the one Blancanales carried, their enemies were in for a firestorm. Schwarz had retained his M-16 A-4, and all three warriors had their pistols tucked in shoulder holsters. Additionally, Blancanales and Schwarz were carrying satchels filled with C-4 explosives.

A special van, arranged by one of many of Stony Man’s local contacts, awaited the Able Team warriors. Mott helped them get their weapons and equipment transferred to the van.

“I’ll be here if you need me,” Mott said.

“Thanks, Charlie,” Blancanales said. “We appreciate you stepping up to the plate on short notice.”

“For you guys?” Mott shrugged with a warm expression. “Any time. Never a dull moment around you three.”

“Yeah,” Lyons grunted. “That’s for sure.”

“Ta-ta for now, boys,” Mott said in farewell.

Once loaded up and in motion, Lyons rang up Kurtzman on the inboard mobile communications system. While it wasn’t as tricked out as the specialized van Able Team normally preferred for their urban missions, this one did have some decent additions including a satellite link to Stony Man’s secure communications array along with a GPS tracker so they could get help from local or state law enforcement if things went hard and they needed support.

“You okay, Ironman?” Kurtzman asked with real concern in his voice.

“I’m no worse for wear,” Lyons said. “Thanks for asking.”

“He’s still as ugly as sin, though,” Schwarz quipped.

“You have a position?” Lyons asked while casting a sour eye at his friend.

“I do,” Kurtzman said. “We traced some activity on a draw account established for one of Daudi Muwanga’s several aliases. We think Muwanga’s the mastermind behind the LRA’s operations here in the U.S. He came into the country under a student visa. His first few months in the States he had a New Orleans address, but the credit account, funded by parties unknown, was for ten grand. The account was used to pay on a month-to-month lease for an address in St. Tammany. Some kind of lodge house catering to the snowbirds.”

Blancanales let out a whistle. “Wow. That’s a definite step up for a student.”

“Yeah, and you’re not just whistling ‘Dixie.’”

There were groans among the Able Team trio at Kurtzman’s attempt to be witty.

“Any idea what we’re up against?” Lyons asked.

“Not really but we’re pretty sure it won’t be a significant force,” Kurtzman replied. “There’s little chance Muwanga could’ve smuggled in any significant numbers. We’re guessing the majority of those you’ve encountered so far are local hire. Probably militia or gun nuts, maybe some radicals thinking they were signing up for a mercenary gig.
